‘Be Your Own Publicist’
PR is all about influence. Unfortunately, many people hear “PR” and think “spin” – or worse, “propaganda.” This talk will dispel some common myths about PR and introduce practical techniques you can use to promote yourself, manage conflict, and win others to your way of thinking.
Speaker Profile: Sarah Hall is originally from Hawaii but went to college in Ohio, a decision that many people questioned. She first came to Japan in 2000 as an exchange student at Doshisha University in Kyoto. After completing her bachelor’s degree in East Asian Studies, she returned to Japan with the JET Program as a Coordinator for International Relations in Miyazaki prefecture.
Sarah moved to Tokyo in 2005 and worked as an account manager at a small news distribution firm before getting her start in public relations at Omron, a Japanese manufacturing company. She later moved to Fleishman-Hillard, a strategic communications consultancy, where she handled inbound and outbound PR for multinational clients in industries ranging from education to defense. While at FH, she completed a certificate program in Branding & Communications at Temple University Japan.
Sarah joined Toys“R”Us, Japan in September 2011. As Director, Public Relations, she is responsible for all aspects of the company’s external communications, including media relations with the Japanese press.
Sarah currently lives in central Tokyo with her fiancé and their cat.
