Tohoku Workshop: Assessing the Relief and Recovery Efforts by the Civil Society Sector (Japan NGO Center for International Cooperation)
October 3/8/10, 2013, Iwate/Miyagi/Fukushima, Japan
The workshop will focus on how groups from outside the disaster zones can better collaborate with local residents, groups, and community leaders involved in the relief efforts. The findings will be shared internationally to be a timely resource for the upcoming United Nations World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in 2015 in Tohoku.

Time:10:10 to noon Date:September 16 Cost: 2,500 yen Directions to Practice Spot: The practice location is about one minute from Yoyogi Park's main entrance. The main entrance is a three-minute walk from Harajuku Station on the Yamanote Line and Meijijingumae Station on the Chiyoda Line. You'll find the entrance near a blue, pedestrian overpass and across from the National Sports Ground. Enter the park, walk over five large, white concentric circles, and pass through a set of black gates. You'll then see a kiosk on your left and three walking paths ahead of you. Take the middle path.Pass a white arch trellis on your right, then head towards a pair of brightly colored garbage bins (one orange, one yellow), which will be on your left.Turn right here and step into a tree-covered area with a number of picnic tables. The practice spot is in the middle of the picnic tables.

IsraAID, an Israel-based humanitarian aid agency, is looking for a Country Director to coordinate and implement the organization’s projects in Tohoku, Japan.

This position is an exciting opportunity to get hands-on experience in non-profit project management in Asia, and lead innovative grass-roots activities in the field. Training Course: 8th International Training Programme on Disaster Risk Management of Cultural Heritage (Ritsumeikan University)
September 7–21, 2013, Kyoto, Japan
A select number of academics, policymakers, and NGO leaders representing countries from around the globe will attend this training course to explore the necessary measures to mitigate risks to cultural heritage in the case of natural disasters, especially in the rapidly urbanizing areas of developing countries. 認定NPO法人ビッグイシュー基金:
若者をホームレスにしない、
“社会的困難を持つ若者応援ネットワーク展開事業”開始。

厚生労働省が発表しているホームレスの実態に関する全国調査(概数調査)
では、ホームレスの数は年々減っていて、今年4月の発表では8,265人でした。

しかし一方で、路上にいないためにカウントされない、
若者を中心とした見えないホームレスは今も増え続けています。
ホームレスの人々の数さえ分からないのが、いまの日本の現状です。
また、生きづらさを抱えて社会から孤立している若者は
300万人を越えるといわれ、
彼らはホームレスになる可能性と隣り合わせにいます。

NPO法人ビッグイシュー基金は、2009年より若者ホームレス支援事業
(『若者ホームレス白書』『若者ホームレス白書2』の発行、
『若者ホームレス支援ネットワーク会議』全3回の開催等)
に取り組んでいます。

これを大きく発展させるために今年度は
「社会的困難を持つ若者応援ネットワーク展開事業」を行うことを決定。
この取り組みには独立行政法人福祉医療機構から
助成金をいただくそうです。

聞き取り調査をもとにNPO法人ビッグイシュー基金が実態をまとめた
『若者ホームレス白書』と、ネットワーク会議をもとに作成した
『若者ホームレス白書2』は
ビッグイシュー基金のホームページよりダウンロードいただけます。
