Disaster Volunteer and NPO regular liaison meetings with other ministries

April 7 NPO vol and government meeting nationwide network of NPO supporting earthquake affected areas 7th meeting of representatives of ministries involved in contact with disaster recovery . The official name of the meeting " Disaster Volunteer and NPO regular liaison meetings with other ministries . " Voluntary office of cabinet (Yuasa?) + cooperation with various ministries , the Ministry of Defense , Ministry of Health and others . After a description of whether we support what each of these ministries in the affected areas , NPO put up some questions and requests . The meeting will be held every two weeks . Personal Hygiene kits for tohoku

Hope International are packing Personal Hygiene kits and sending a shipment from Tokyo to their Sendai warehouse on Monday for further distribution. If you would like to donate the cost of a kit - 1,500 yen OR create your own and drop it off in Yurakucho. The original goal was for 1,000 kits.. but 10,000 sounds better! Comments from Tohoku

(No, not my comments but from someone who lives there...) I live in Iwate and had chances to observe local efforts while visiting friends on the coast. From what I observed at the official relief center, there are a lot of LOCAL hands (including evacuees). They load and unload trucks, distribute food and supplies, cook meals and support SDF logistics and such. Food and supplies are arriving in mass through Kamaishi and other ports and largely distributed by SDF vehicles or trucks driven by Kuroneko and other local business volunteers. If there is a problem, that would be fuel shortage to make this happen. Availability of fuel might have improved in Kanto but not much here in Iwate, and not at all in affected towns. Anyway, SDF and public workers are working around the clock distributing and researching the needs in addition to their rescue work organized under local governments. They are now requesting shelters autonomous bodies to share the food and supplies with ot...
